XD I love my Nikon D40. The zoom isn't as good as you think. It's really picky about how close or how far from the object that your trying to take a picture of. So I'm getting a better zoom lens. Btu if you do get a camera I do recommend the Nikon D40 ^^

I have a little digital canon camera. I can't remember what kind it is. It was alright but it doesn't take nearly as good pictures as my beloved Nikon. And I know what you mean XD I hate the flash on my Nikon and the Canon. The flash just doesn't look natural. That's why I never use it. ^^

i hear nikons work well in dim lighting (ahem comercials)...does it really? i mean, my canon can only take truly worthy shots in natural sunlight.

It does actually. You just have to tweek the shutter speed. Before I started messing with the shutter speed and ISO sensitivity it didn't work to well in dim light. The pictures looked blurry. But I looked up on the computer how to increase the shutter speed and it helped a lot. I set it the fastest speed and the pictures I took in dim light looked a lot better! so yes, if you know what you're doing the Nikon it will indeed do great in dim light. :)

Go to manual setting and find the ISO sensitivity. Set it to the highest speed.
